Cake is an attempt to represent buildings as flat images by translating their complex architectural surfaces into simpler, flatter geometric forms. Through this simplification, the goal was to emphasize the flatness of photographic images and to visualize the relationship between physical reality and its image. Based on the idea that a city is a set of different buildings, this paper maquette combines buildings of varying colors and styles in a uniform manner, perhaps even giving them a toy-like appearance. With the ability to freely manipulate each piece, the maquette demonstrates the reduction in scale and the loss of certain aspects of reality in its transfer to a two-dimensional surface.
